Feminism.....Feminism involves various movements theories and philosophies which are concerned with the issue of gender difference, that advocate equality for women, and that campaign for women's rights and interests. [Courtesy of Wikipedia]
It does have a noble ring to it, Feminism, the equalizing of gender opportunities, the aparent abolishment of gender-social differences, it all sounds very 'fair' and 'just', like it was always meant to be but it's only recently that mankind has been sufficiently civilized to correct this mistake; as with gay marriages, as with the wide and growing acceptance of homosexuality and the freedom to be....well... a homo.
Unfortunately, I believe gender is what it is: Two distinctly different sexes both mentally and physically, and with it certain social roles have been alloted to them respectively. Lets face it, you can try and pump my shrivelled cold heart with high-sounding morally-charged words of equality and good ol' American freedom; but in the end of the day, God slapped two breasts on a chick to feed their kids with milk and while you can buy some pretty awesome baby milk from your local store, it has still been proven that breast milk > store milk.
Don't get me wrong and take out the angry picket sticks, I do believe that especially in this day and age, women should NOT be denied opportunities such as occupation or rights to vote and such. However, I believe that a man isnt wrong in believing that a women should still be the primary caretaker of the child in a normal family, that she should be responsible for being the social pillar within the family. Similarly, I believe that the man should be bringing home the dough; I still cringe everytime I hear Househusband, there's a reason why it sounds so alien to the ears. There are certain roles I believe the husband and wife has to take within a family first and foremost before secondary roles may be taken. If the wife is capable of taking care of the child and work as the director of a successful bank? Thats great! If a man can provide for his family and still find the time to play and spend quality time with the kids or cook? Fantastic!
In the past, you couldnt take care of the house and provide for the family at the same time, the effort it takes to empty the potty, fetch water from the streams, acquire fresh meat (there werent fridges in the past btw) and cook for the family wasnt something you could do within the hour, it was a lifestyle. The same with work, work hours, for the most part, was a whole-day affair with lunch and breakfast being taken on work, and sometimes dinner. It is from this that social status of women and men were developed: It worked, so it was right. A woman working and negelecting housework or a man staying at home taking care of the kids and not bringing in the dough was retarded back then. Now? Things are very different and when things change, the 'norm' isnt viable anymore, norms have to be broken to adjust with these changes.
The abuse to females during the medieval period and around there is a very good example of when the 'norm' isnt viable and required change and adjustment
I believe that Feminism is fine in that sense: that now with technology and how much mankind has developed, it is actually possible to perform our roles and do more! What I fear this Feminism wave has done though, is create a blurring of the lines of what it means to be a mother and a father. What people need to understand is that the roles allotted to gender are not shackles or things that chain us, it is what makes us, in many ways, it is an identity, the same way culture is. When you let technology and convienence destroy such things just because you can, I think we are throwing away so much more than what we would gain in turn.
Woe it is the day that 'mother' is no longer synonomous with 'Love, care, nurture, emotional support' and 'father' with 'Strength, support, provider and a role model', woe the day when the concept of 'gentlemen' and 'lady' are succesfully mutilated by crazed worshippers of absolute freedom (also known as chaos, immorality and a tonnage of sin <3). Woe is the day when gender ceases to become an identity but merely another butchered victim of a wanton people who blindly march towards morale decay in the name of 'absolute freedom and equality', for how long are we going to mock and twist the creations of God?
Note: To balance up this topic, I found a site for men who have lost sight of who they are. http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=real_men
